Joining with the non-profit Sudcalifornian Association for the Protection of the Environment and the Sea Turtle, AC (aka, ASUMPMATOMA, AC), we were given the incredible opportunity to pull live baby sea turtles from man-made nests in the effort to help protect and reaffirm the at-risk populations of sea turtles. It was late in the season, but there were 100+ babies ready to go on the third day we were in Cabo.
Welcome to Sea Turtle Sanctuary Asupmatoma A.C., Cabo San Lucas B.C.S. MX, Do not litter, do not park on the beach, thank you
Signs are stuck into the sand over each nest, indicating the date the nest was laid.
We were told to put on some gloves, and pull away sand until you felt something.
The turtles we recovered were Olive Ridley.
One nest alone can have over 100 eggs. We pulled 108 turtles from one.
Stacked crate covers for nests and signs indicating date eggs were laid. 45 days after a nest has been laid, the turtles are ready to be pulled out of the sand and put onto the beach for the long walk into the ocean.
